Tell Me More...
Gorgeous scrambling clusters of glowing embers, Streptosolen jamesonii is an exuberant, scrambling, evergreen climber and one of the brightest to get your hot summer garden really going. Large. loose clusters of colour-changing, trumpet-shaped blooms open yellow and deepen through orange to red as they mature. Adorning long, flexible branches of evergreen foliage from late spring to late summer, it will spill over a wall, from a hanging basket, or alternatively pruned to become neat and upright. Originating from southern America, where it can be found growing in open woodlands. Known commonly as the Marmalade Bush because of the colours, reminiscent of the fruity preserve. Streptosolen jamesonii has been given the prestigious Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden, by the Royal Horticultural Society. Streptosolen jamesonii prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. A tender perennial with an RHS hardiness rating of H1C, so will need to be kept frost free over winter. Reaching a height of 2.5-3m, it will spread to between 1.2-2.5m.
