An exciting, compact variety of hydrangea with a delicious name and richly coloured flowers - reminiscent of a raspberry truffle - from June to September. Leaves are large with deep veining and serrated margins, making an attractive shrub throughout March to November, even without the boisterous and generous blooms. As a small variety which reaches a height and spread of 60cm, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Magical Chocolate' is ideal for container planting, although it will be equally happy in a border. Blooms also make excellent fresh, cut flowers and can even be used as in dried arrangements over winter. Unusually, this hydrangea flowers on old wood as well as new - a valuable back-up measure if the buds on new growth are damaged by late frost.Hydrangea macrophylla 'Magical Chocolate' prefers to be planted in fertile, moist, well-drained soil which benefits from partial sun or shade. A hardy, deciduous shrub which loses its leaves over winter and becomes dormant until the following spring. We recommend that you leave flowerheads on the plant as a form of protection and decoration throughout the cold weather, snipping back to the nearest shooting buds in springtime.
