The native English bluebell, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, are the quintessential sign of a British spring; when bluebells are in flower, spring has most definitely arrived, and summer is just around the corner.Your shady woodland garden is perfect to be brightened by this beautiful spring flowering bulb.Bluebells are deer and rabbit resistant, and these vigorous plants are ideal for creating carpets of blooms, where their classic colour will make a dramatic impact and gently fill the spring air with scent.Hyacinoides non-scripta is the English Bluebell, with sweet, fruity scented blooms, flowering on one side of the stem, giving the iconic drooping stature. Plant your Hyacinthoides non-scripta bulbs in September or October on well-drained, moist soil at a depth of 10cm for flowering next April to May.The graceful, arching stems will reach up to 40cm each, bending at the top where several single bells of sweetly perfumed violet-blue flowers dangle softly.
