One of the hardiest palms, Trachycarpus fortunei is perfect for giving a taste of the exotic to your patio, bringing back happy memories of holidays long gone. Known as the Windmill Palm this best-selling palm will certainly brush away the holiday blues.An evergreen, with large fan-shaped leaves; widespread in the forests of Central and Southern China. In favourable conditions Trachycarpus can grow around 30cm a year, reaching a height and spread of up to 12m x 2.5m, though in the average UK garden they tend to reach a maximum of around 4m. Described as the hardiest palm in the world, it is perfect for the UK climate and looks fabulous as an eye-catching pot centre. Able to withstand temperatures down to -15 C, with a little shelter from strong or cold winds. Remaining manageable, growing almost anywhere, Trachycarpus fortune prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun, and has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding performance in the garden.
