Tell Me More...
Be ready to fill up your vases with Alstroemerria Ligtu hybrids. You will be amazed as up to 100 large, exotic-looking blooms with exquisite markings are produced between June and November. Your home and garden will be filled with blooms as they last up to 14 days in a vase. Alstroemeria Ligut hybrids are easy to look after and are bothered by very few pests. Remember to pick or deadhead, by pulling the flowers stems gently from the bottom of the plant. The resulting ‘wound’ then initiates new flowers. The more you pick, the more flowers grow. Originating from South Africa, Alstroemeria (or Peruvian Lilies) form fleshy tubers beneath the ground which increase each year to make an impressive clump of attractive foliage. The perfect base from which many stems rise, producing buds which open to reveal stunning, mottled blooms which could have been painted by an artist. In the world of flowers, Alstroemeria blooms represent friendship. Each of the six petals a reminder of respect, commitment, humour, patience, understand and empathy. Alstroemeria Ligtu prefer to be grown in well-drained soil in a partly shaded sheltered site, reaching a height of 50cm and spreading to 75cm. Being an herbaceous perennial, these beauties will die back during winter, to re-emerge the following spring.
