Magnolia loebneri Leonard Messel is an outstanding magnolia. The Royal Horticultural Society recognised this fact by bestowing on 'Leonard Messel' their highest accolade - their Award of Garden Merit. Magnolia loebneri Leonard Messel is a robust, adaptable magnolia which produces attractive lilac-pink and cream flowers. The mature size of this magnolia is 5m x 5m, which it will take up to 30 years to achieve. Ever since Pierre Magnol brought his namesake plant to Europe in the seventeenth century, there has been a consistent breeding programme to improve and create new magnolia varieties. This variety is a welcome addition to any garden and a must have for the lover of magnolias.Magnolias grow best in fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil in full sun.
