Tell Me More...
Digitalis purpurea f. 'Albiflora' is dramatic, architectural and long flowering - with blooms from May through to July. Digitalis are one of the most distinctive and instantly recognisable garden plants and make a statement all summer. Creamy-white blooms are held high on strong, upright stems above semi-evergreen foliage and these nectar-rich blooms are much loved by bees and butterflies who will visit each flower for a feast. Frequently seen in herbaceous borders, digitalis can also be grown in containers. Commonly known as foxgloves because legend tells naughty fairies put the blooms from a digitalis over the fox's paws to help him keep silent whilst he was hunting (if you look inside the blooms you can even see the tiny marks left by the fairies' footprints). As well as being a medicinal marvel, foxgloves are woodland plants and, as such, Digitalis purpurea Alba prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Short lived, hardy perennial plants which grow to an approximate height of 1.2m and spread of 30cm.
