Tell Me More...
The outstanding flowers of Daphne bholua Mary Rose are not only larger than many daphne they are also incredibly fragrant. Scent has been likened to traditional, vintage perfume offering a nostalgic wonder to your planting. Furthermore, flowers emerge as deep purple buds in February and open into beautiful, ombre-shaded pink and white - enhancing their soft, romantic appeal. Foliage is dark, elongated and glossy - reaching up to 11cm in length - and at least some is retained for most if not all of the year (dependent upon where you garden in the UK). Daphne bholua Mary Rose likes to be planted in moist, well-drained soil with any aspect other than north-facing. A hardy, semi-evergreen, tall and upright shrub which enjoys either full sun or partial shade and reaches a height of up to 4 metres with a spread of 1.5m. Flowers are produced on new growth so keep pruning to a minimum in order to preserve the flowering stems which will, however, make a wonderfully fragrant inclusion in a vase.
