Tell Me More...
Fully double blooms consist of white and pink petals surrounding a yellow centre. They nod in the breeze from May to July, above layered petticoats of lacy grey green foliage throughout spring and summer. Despite their delicate appearance they are tough little chaps and very easy to grow. Also known commonly as 'Granny's Bonnet', Aquilegia bridge the gap which often occurs when spring bulbs are finishing, and summer perennials are just getting going, with their bright and easy-going blooms. Named after the granddaughter of the British naturalist Charles Darwin, Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata 'Nora Barlow' who worked studying plant genetics at the John Innes Institute the at Cambridge University.Excellent cut for floral arrangements, lasting well in a vase, Aquilegia are rabbit and slug resistant, and unfussy on soil conditions in sun or partial shade. They will reach a mature height each season of 90cm and spread 45cm.
