A wonderful, flowering spectacle, Leoptospermum scoparium Red Damask with pretty, evergreen foliage is hard to beat.Beautiful buds adorn arching stems in late winter, dotted along each branch, like jewels. By early summer each bud has opened and will be in their full pomp. The waxy-looking, double, cerise-pink blooms with dark centres draw the bees and butterflies into your garden as they fill the full length of each branch.Native to Australia and New Zealand, hence the common name New Zealand Tea Tree, these members of the myrtle family had many uses -t e wood was used for carving, and as handles for tools, while the sawdust can be used to smoke meats. Leptospermum scoparium Red Damask is happy in borders and containers, thought shelter from the coldest winds. Loves to be grown in coastal areas, where the soil will not get too wet or waterlogged. Hardy to around -3 C, Leptospermum Red Damask prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade, although ideally Leptospermum require a hot, dry and protected position.
