Pittosporum are a genus of flowering plants within the Pittosporaceae family, native to Australia, eastern Asia and regions of Africa. They can often be referred to as ‘cheesewoods’. The genus is derived from the Greek word meaning "pitch-seed".
Pittosporum are evergreen shrubs or trees with dense leathery foliage, supporting often scented blooms that form tight clusters during spring and summer. Once the flowering period is over, woody fruits often follow splitting to reveal seeds that are set in a sticky pulp.
