Tell Me More...
A special UK native tree that once fully grown after many years, provides a huge canopy of branches and leaves forming a really captivating display. This magnificent tree has been known as the queen of British trees for its grand and regal appearance. Small, oval shaped green leaves which when young are covered in soft hairs and have deep markings. Whilst the foliage does turn to an orange hue in autumn, sometimes the leaves hold on to the tree through winter. Small fluffy flowers appear in April and May and then forms into a woody shell where the cobnut slowly grows. These trees provide not only food for wildlife but also a habit for birds and squirrels to shelter in, as well as many insects much needed in our natural world.
