This is an unusual ground cover plant which originates from New Zealand and is also known as Brass Buttons. Leptinella potentillina has small, fern like leaves which are shades of green and tinged with bronze, purple and pewter colours. Great as ground cover where very little else will grow - it will form a dense mat underneath trees where the soil is dry and will happily mingle in amongst path edges to soften and enhance them. This mat forming plant is fully hardy and will only grow to height of around 6cm. Individual, evergreen plants spread approximately 20cm so it is an ideal solution in some of the trickier parts of the garden where you would appreciate some green ground cover. As a bonus in July and August it carries small, yellow pincushion flowers for additional seasonal interest.
