Paeonia lactiflora are native to China, Japan, and Korea and renowned for their huge, often fragrant flowers which are perfect when cut for a vase as well as an herbaceous border or a carefully selected container.
The ‘Garden Performance Paeonia Collection’ comprises; lactiflora ‘Command Performance’ – first registered in 1996, intriguing colour changing blooms in May and June, open hot red-pink, then fade through shades of pink and peach to creamy-white pom-poms, height and spread 1m; lactiflora ‘Bridal Shower’ – luxurious, large, and fragrant, fully double white blooms to around 18cm in diameter, in May and June, height and spread 1m; lactiflora ‘Angel Cheeks’ – large, fully double flowers in a blend of blush pink with a hint of creamy white, height 90cm, spread 75cm.
Plant Paeonia lactiflora in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil of any type except heavy clay, in full sun or partial shade. Hardy, herbaceous perennials which do not require additional protection over winter. Plants will die back in late autumn, then re-sprout the following spring, ready to put on their fantastic show once more.
