Primula veris ‘Sunset Shades’ is a hybrid, clump forming, pollinator friendly flower. Derived from our native cowslip, plants will naturalise in open ground and create welcoming colour in pots and baskets. A relative of the national favourite which encapsulates the arrival of spring and can be seen in hedgerows and verges where it grows wild. Primula veris ‘Sunset Shades’ is a special plant which flowers from March to May in shades of yellow, orange and red – lending its fiery tones and fruity, apricot-like perfume to the garden and even to a delicate posy vase indoors. Plant in borders, baskets and containers, as well as under deciduous shrubs and trees with narcissus and bluebells to lend dreamy woodland impact. In ancient times the plant was traditionally used to treat sleeping problems as it is said to have a sedative quality, as well as the flowers being used to help treat coughs. Primula veris ‘Sunset Shades’ prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil of any kind except sandy and position in full sun or partial shade. A hardy (H5) semi-evergreen perennial. Plants grow to a height of 25cm with a spread of 30cm.
