An exciting, new variety of primula which holds an abundance of rosebud-like flowers from January to April each year. The intensity and vibrant hues these add to your garden during winter to spring is second to none. Primula rubens ‘Purple’ is perfect for containers, baskets, border edges and rockeries at a time when there is little colour available. As an added bonus, on sunny days, you may even notice their sweet, subtle scent drifting across the garden, and flowers will also entice in the early pollinators. Primula are woodland plants and, as such, like a position in semi-shade with humus rich soil. As a general rule, however, they are tough enough to do well in most spots if not exposed to baking hot sun or drought conditions. Primula rubens ‘Purple’ is a semi-evergreen, hardy perennial which reaches a height and spread of 20cm. Plants become dormant over the summer and then, in the right conditions, will re-emerge during the winter months ready to bloom all over again.
