Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
With a perfume likened to sweet sherbet and flowers which emerge in creamy white on bare stems from November to February each year Lonicera fragrantissima is a winter-flowering 'must-have' for the garden. Drawn from a large genus, this is a shrub variety which grows up to 3 metres in height and spread. It can be trained up a wall or trellis in the same way as climbing varieties - or even across an arching gateway where visitors will get the fragrant impact alongside the splendid blooms. Flowers are followed by berries which provide sustenance to wildlife in the same way the nectar did for pollinators and the foliage is held on strong stems from March to October for gap-filling interest throughout spring and summer. Lonicera fragrantissima prefers a spot in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from either full sun or partial shade. A hardy shrub which can withstand temperatures as low as -20 degrees C without winter protection.
