Grown as either a shrub or small tree, Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Rubin’ offers scented flowers from January through to March in rich shades of ruby red. Flowers are intriguing as each petal emerges from a dark red calyx as narrow, crimped, fiery ribbons which are held on bare stems and create a tassel like effect on the bare branches which are perfect cut for a display inside your home. Furthermore, the spicy, citrus scent from these blooms is invigorating to the senses. Flowers are followed by broadly oval, wrinkled green leaves which provide verdant, gap filling interest right through to autumn, when leaves shift to glorious shades of yellow and orange at the close of the year.Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Rubin’ prefers moist, well-drained soil of any kind except chalk based. Plant in full sun or partial shade and this hardy (H5), deciduous shrub will reach a height and spread of around 4m once mature. This variety holds the Award of Garden Merit from the RHS for its dependable and delightful performance.
