With a name which literally translates as ‘fire magic’ Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Feuerzauber’ will set your winter garden aglow with its brick red, orange and deep purple tassel-like flowers, produced from December through to February each year. Not only do these blooms have visual appeal they also have a delightful, slightly citrussy fragrance which lures in pollinators and drifts across the garden for further sensual delight. Flowers are held on leafless stems – with green foliage emerging in April and lasting through to November time. Leaves will, in autumn, transform into rich shades of orange, red and yellow for a second spectacular display. Plant Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Feuerzauber’ in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. This variety will happily grow in the ground or in a large container and reach a maximum mature height and spread of up to 4 metres in 10-20 years. A hardy, deciduous shrub or tree which does not need winter protection throughout the UK.
