Daphne x transatlantica ‘Perfume Princess’ is a recently developed hybrid with larger than average flowers which are borne from January to April each year. Collectively daphne are much admired for their ability to bloom and perfume when little else is flowering in the garden and ‘Perfume Princess’ does this in swathes, adding delicate colour to your winter and spring planting. Flowers are held in clusters within the leaf axils along the entire length of the stem for an abundant display which is well worth inclusion in a vase too. Evergreen foliage accompanies these and makes a great filler for a border, bed or container throughout the rest of the year. Its tidy, mounding habit ensures that it remains neat with very little need for pruning. Daphne x transatlantica ‘Perfume Princess’ prefers a spot in well-drained soil of any kind which benefits from sun or partial shade – ideal for a woodland edge or other dappled shade. A hardy shrub (H4) which needs no additional winter protection throughout most of the UK and reaches a height of 1.5m with a spread of 1m.
