A fabulous new variety of clematis which was introduced at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023 by top breeder and innovator, Raymond Evison. Named in recognition of the outstanding charitable work undertaken in Tanzania by the Guernsey-based charity, The Tumaini Fund, which supports thousands of orphans in Kagera, NW Tanzania. An amazing, deciduous climber which will happily scramble up a frame, or through small trees and shrubs. Whether in a large container or in the ground, the large, mauve-purple blooms with purple striped petals are produced from May to June and then again in September, drawing in pollinators as well as admiring eyes.A Group 2 clematis which needs a slight prune in late winter or early spring to encourage strong growth, flowering and to prevent it from becoming a tangle of stems. Clematis ‘Tumaini’ prefers a sunny or partially shaded spot and reaches a mature height and spread of around 1.2m. Given an RHS hardiness rating of H6, it should not require any additional frost protection over winter.
