Clematis cirrhosa ‘Christmas Surprise’ is a new clematis in the family, with semi-evergreen foliage that is the perfect backdrop for the winter blooms.
As the name suggests, she flowers in the winter from December to February, quite often in bloom over the Christmas period, decorating the evergreen foliage like lights and baubles on a christmas tree.
Masses of dainty, bell-shaped blooms in shades of green when they emerge, becoming more creamy-white as they age, envelope the foliage. The foliage, although semi-evergreen, will often take a slight, well-earned rest in mid-summer and lose some leaves, however, will produce fresh new green foliage in the autumn.
Clematis cirrhosa ‘Christmas Surprise’ is the perfect choice for sheltered borders and large containers, looking amazing when scrambling through a large deciduous shrub. A hardy perennial that prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade, reaching an approximate height of 2.5m. Winter protection may be required in exceptional weather conditions.
