Tell Me More...
A recent arrival, this is an American-bred version of a classic British native wildflower (also known as Stachys). With taller stems in exciting new colours Betonica officinalis ‘Summer Grapes’ offers unusual blooms which make wonderful cut flowers as well as a perfect inclusion in your garden. As a member of the mint family, ‘Summer Grapes’ has the characteristic aromatic, wrinkled foliage which makes attractive, deer-resistant groundcover. Its flower stems are strong, straight, and leafless. The flowers themselves are a magnet to pollinators, likely to buzz with life during their blooming period of June to August. Use Betonica officinalis ‘Summer Grapes’ towards the middle of a border, along a path edge and even in a container. For best results grow in well-draining, moderately fertile soil of any type except clay. Position in full sun to partial shade and this hardy, semi-evergreen perennial will reach a height and spread of 50-60cm.
