Tell Me More...
Astrantia major Ruby Wedding blooms from June to August each year, producing clusters of dainty burgundy flowers on straight stems. Flowers are adored by pollinators and other wildlife. Commonly referred to as Hatties Pincushion because each bloom resembles a miniature pincushion. Astrantia also make brilliant cut flowers - adding an airy lightness to arrangements, just as they do in the border. Aim to cut when the blooms are fully open to avoid delicate young flowers from wilting. Plant Astrantia Ruby Wedding in moist, well-drained soil of any type. Position where plants will enjoy either full sun or partial shade. Fully hardy, herbaceous perennials which retain their foliage from April to October each year and do not need any additional winter protection in the UK. Simply cut back spent stems and foliage to keep the garden tidy and, if necessary, divide mature plants in autumn. Excellent for naturalising in dappled shade and can be grown in a container provided the soil is kept moist. Mature to a height of 75cm and a spread of 60cm.
