These small but mighty blooms are certainly packed with colour and intricate markings. Viola cornuta ‘Penny Primrose Picotee’ has fragrant, yellow flowers which are edged with purple and have delightful purple streaks on the lower petals. Charmingly the flowers are said to have ‘face’ petals and upper petals, along with the streaks being referred to as ‘whiskers’ – giving these violas a sunny, smiling demeanour, as if looking to greet you. With a compact, uniform habit, excellent heat tolerance and a prolific flowering ability from October to May, we think they are a must have for the garden. Whether Viola cornuta ‘Penny Primrose Picotee’ is planted in pots, borders or hanging baskets it’s almost impossible not to stop and admire their dainty beauty, with a welcoming smile in return. Plants prefer moist, well-drained soil of any kind in full sun or partial shade. Hardy (H4), semi-evergreen perennials which reach a height and spread of 20cm.
