From a dependable and wide-ranging family of plants appreciated for their deeply veined and decorous foliage as well as their richly fragrant flowers. Viburnum farreri flowers intermittently from November to April each year - spreading its delicious perfume across the winter garden in late autumn, again in spring and in mild spells throughout winter. Blooms appear on bare stems and are followed by the foliage which emerges bronze coloured in early spring and matures to green before falling in October time. Viburnum farreri has an upright form when young, becoming more rounded with a graceful arching habit as it matures to a height of 2.5 metres and a spread of 3 metres. Plant this AGM award winner, hardy, deciduous shrub in humus rich, moist, well-drained soil which is in full sun or full shade. Ideal as a backdrop to an herbaceous border and can be grown as a hedge or in containers.
