As the summer comes to an end and the days get shorter, it is lovely to see your garden filled with plants that are still flowering in abundance and producing welcome colour. Read on for a few chosen favourites for late flowering splendour whilst the cooler weather draws in and summer blooms fade.
Also known as Windflowers, they are a gorgeous reliable addition to your garden. They come to life proudly from late summer and display showy blooms right through to November. Dancing in the breeze of the cooler months and catching the light of the descending autumn sun. Plant in sun or partial shade.
Geraniums are an extremely popular floriferous perennial, as they are easy to grow and very hardy. They are perfect for beginners but also a dependable plant for guaranteed colour with minimal effort. They are wonderfully long flowering, from summer to autumn and there are many varieties to choose from; you are guaranteed to find one to suit your colour scheme.
A firm favourite amongst gardeners, salvias can flower from late summer through to autumn, cope well in poor conditions and are fantastically pollen-rich for bees and butterflies. They have beautiful open-mouthed tubular blooms with fragrant foliage; they would suit being planted in borders or pots where the foliage could be brushed past, releasing an enjoyable scent.
Pom-pom daisy-like flower heads appear in abundance on luscious green branched foliage, adding welcome pops of colour and cheerfulness to your borders or pots. These perennials are particularly disease resistant and generally undemanding in their needs. Also, they can be cut or dried to make beautiful displays in your home. Whether they are in the garden or inside the home, they add fantastic texture and colour.
