Tell Me More...
Not only is Pyracantha coccinea 'Red Column' a sight to behold in autumn with its scarlet berries accented by the rich green foliage, it is equally beautiful when in flower through June and July. The delicate looking white flowers are sure to be awash with pollinators, who love these sweetly scented flowers. What is more this is a robust and reliable choice for hedging as the stems of this climber intertwine amongst themselves to form a valuable upright thicket which also deters unwanted visitors due to its prickly nature. Even better, the brilliant berries make a fantastic inclusion in a winter bouquet (with thorns removed), if you have any berries left after the birds have feasted on them.Plant in almost any soil as once established Pyracantha coccinea 'Red Column' is drought tolerant. Likes any aspect other than north-facing and enjoys either full sun or partial shade. A hardy, evergreen shrub which does not need winter protection throughout most of the UK growing to a height of 3m and spread of 4m.
