Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
New to Hayloft for 2024, the ‘Cheery Pyracantha coccinea Collection’ encompasses a trio of versatile and vibrant shrubs which each offer three seasons of interest and are known to have less thorns than many varieties. Plants are not only perfect for hedging, forming an almost impenetrable barrier once established, they are well suited to container growing and can even be utilised to create a focal point in the garden. Pollinator friendly flowers emerge in late spring and summer and are an absolute favourite with bees. Blooms are followed by small, brightly coloured berries in autumn offering a feast for wildlife and for your eyes! Even better, foliage is evergreen so creates a visual barrier all year round. ‘Cheery Pyracantha coccinea Collection’ comprises ‘Red Star’ with vibrant red berries and a height and spread of up to 4 metres; ‘Sunny Star’ with golden yellow berries and a height of 3 metres with a spread of 2 metres; and finally, ‘Orange Star’ with orange berries and a height of 3 metres along with a spread of 2 metres. Pyracantha coccinea prefers a spot in moist, well-drained soil of any kind which has a neutral or alkaline pH. Position in full sun or partial shade and this fully hardy (H7) will bring delight for years to come.
