A captivating herbaceous peony variety, Peonia lactiflora ‘Kansas’ is celebrated for its striking, vivid blooms and robust nature. Boasting large, double flowers with petals in shades of rich, deep magenta-red, it creates a spectacular display in borders and containers. Each delicately fragranced bloom measures about 15-20cm and makes a stunning addition to indoor floral arrangements too. Typically flowering in May and June, the colourful display lasts for several weeks above lush clumps of dark green, herbaceous foliage. Thriving in full sun or partial shade, it prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Relatively low maintenance, with a high resistance to pests and diseases, it is an ideal choice for both novice and experienced gardeners. A mature plant will reach a height and spread of about 90cm. Known for its longevity and often thriving in the same spot for many years, Peonia lactiflora ‘Kansas’ is hardy to around -15 to -20°C and an RHS AGM award holder.
