Agapanthus africanus 'Glen Avon' will happily thrive in a border or container and form large clumps of strap-shaped foliage topped with rounded umbels of flowers throughout the summer months. 'Glen Avon' is a pale lilac bloom with striking, deeper colour central stripes to each petal. The name of these much-loved blooms is almost as beautiful as the blooms themselves. With the word Agapanthus derived from the Greek 'agape' (love) and 'anthos' (flower). The tall, elegant stems of 'Glen Avon' hold the funnel-shaped pendulous blooms for up to six weeks from the end July to September, offering an eye-catching and sculptural addition to your planting. Plants have a borderline hardiness and best flowering results are achieved when roots are restricted so agapanthus are well suited to growing in containers. Where conditions are warmer, they will happily naturalise in areas where soil is well-drained, and space is restricted. Agapanthus africanus 'Glen Avon' prefer moist, well-drained soil in full sun and are half-hardy perennials tolerating temperatures dipping to -5 degrees.
