Hylotelephium ‘Thunderhead’ produces enormous, deep rose-pink flowerheads which look stunning against the uniquely coloured, stout, grey-green and purple foliage. The plant’s name is inspired by majestic thunderclouds seen rolling across the skies over Oregon during a summer storm and will create an equally dramatic impression in your garden.
Hylotelephium are versatile, drought-tolerant, easy to grow, and with the ability to thrive in places where other plants would struggle to survive. Clusters of nectar-rich, star-shaped flowers attract butterflies and bees, who dance over the flowers in the warm summer breeze collecting their meal.
Known commonly as Sedum or Stonecrop, in reference to the easy going, ground-hugging nature of most varieties - although Hylotelephium ‘Thunderhead’ has more of an upright habit.
Hylotelephium ‘Thunderhead’ is statuesque in comparison to others and will grow to a height of around 75cm and spread of up to 60cm. Deer and rabbit resistant, they prefer to be grown in well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay. Position in full sun or partial shade with a south or west facing aspect. As a fully hardy perennial (H7), ‘Thunderhead’ will thrive outside all year round for years to come.
