Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
Helleborus x hybridus 'Double Ellen Pink' offers flowers which bring a magical touch to your garden during the winter. Large, double, cup-shaped flowers are produced from January to May, with a dainty appearance which often defies nature by peeking out through the snow. Glossy, dark, evergreen foliage highlights the beauty of each ruffled, deep pink edged flower. Blooms are also excellent cut for arrangements in your home.Known as Lenten Rose, due to its flowering time, Helleborus are related to the buttercup family and a great source of food for early emerging pollinators. Intriguingly, the Cornish refer to Helleborus plants as 'The Virgin's Mantle' and, in medieval times, they were said to be good for breaking bad spells and curses, so were often planted next to the front door. Helleborus x hybridus 'Double Ellen Pink' prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from partial to full shade. Growing to a height and spread of approximately 35cm, Helleborus are fully hardy and perennial, so you can enjoy them in containers or borders year after year.
