Tell Me More...
The 2000 plus species in this diverse genus include everything from annuals to small trees. Euphorbia amygdaloides ‘Miners Merlot’ is a drought tolerant, semi-evergreen mediterranean variety which produces mounds of narrow, oval leaves and offers an ever-changing spectacle of colour. New wine-red growth highlights the contrasting deep purple and olive-green tones of the older foliage. Leaves lighten in summer, yet still retain their reddish tones, and purple stalks bearing lime-green flower bracts appear between August and October. Perfect for adding some zing to a late summer and autumn display. Plants bring structural interest to a bed, rockery or patio container and this deer-resistant plant will also naturalise in your border – much to the joy of visiting bees and butterflies. Euphorbia amygdaloides ‘Miners Merlot’ prefers a spot in moist, well-drained soil of any type, although adjust drainage if you garden on heavy clay. Plant in full sun or partial shade and this hardy perennial will reach a height and spread of 60cm.
