Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
Eryngium 'Pen Blue' was originally discovered growing in a Somerset garden. It is now an established member of architectural family which adds texture and intrigue to the garden. In summer, Eryngium 'Pen Blue' produces many tiny, violet-blue flowers which pack together to create ovoid, cones of flowers - each surrounded by a wide, electric-blue 'ruff' of bracts. Eryngium have a long history of medical and culinary use. The name Eryngium is said to originate from the Greek word, 'eruggarein' (meaning to eructate) - referencing the use of the plant to relieve the build-up of gastric gasses! Eryngium 'Pen Blue' is equally amazing as cut or dried flowers for arrangements as it is in the borders. Furthermore, it is rabbit resistant but beneficially attractive to bees and butterflies, Eryngium 'Pen Blue' is drought tolerant, preferring well-drained soil in full sun. Plants will flourish for years without the need for winter protection. Grows to a height of approximately 60cm with a spread of 40cm.
