Tell Me More...
Unusual within the Eryngium world, Eryngium ‘Magical White Lagoon’ is an exciting adaptation which provides unique interest with its ghostly, teasel-like blooms. Distinctly sculptured, verdant foliage is the perfect foil to display curiously attractive cone-like flowers, which open green and turn bright white in summer. Each flower is surrounded by a ruff-like layer of silvery bracts. Ingeniously, extra thick outer leaf layers minimise water loss, helping the plant to flower whilst others may frazzle. This explains the common name, Sea Holly, which relates to their drought tolerance and ability to cope with winds, salt spray and sandy soil. Eryngium originate from Europe and the Mediterranean where such conditions are prevalent. A wonderful plant to add texture to your borders and containers. Astounding as a cut flower for spectacular fresh or dried arrangements within your home. Rabbit resistant and very attractive to bees and butterflies, Eryngium ‘Magical White Lagoon’ prefers well-drained soil which is chalk, loam or sand based and likes a spot in full sun or can tolerate partial shade. A hardy (H5) perennial, it will flourish for years without additional winter protection, reaching a mature height of 80cm, spreading to 40cm.
