Typha

History and Origin:

Typha is a genus of around 30 species within the Typhaceae family, native in various parts of the Northern Hemisphere in marginal aquatic areas and grows throughout the UK. Also known as Reedmace here in Britain. .

About:

Typha are aqautic or sem-aqautic, rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial plants. Spikes of brown flowers bloom in summer above strap-shaped foliage. The rhizomes are edible and can be made into a flour. Evidence has been found to suggest that people were eating them arond 30,000 years ago in Europe.
