Mahonia is a genus of approximately 70 species within the Berberidaceae family, native to eastern Asia. The genus name was given in honour of American horticulturalist Bernard McMahon.
Mahonia are evergreen shrubs with dense textured and opulent pinnate leaves that alter in colour dependant on the time of year. Some are often followed by impressive black berries after the flowering period.
