Tell Me More...
A fantastically imposing mahonia, reaching up to 4 metres in height and spread. This mature prominence is a fantastic way to have a bold, floriferous presence in the garden from November through to March. Mahonia x media 'Charity' also provides architectural interest all year round with its evergreen rosettes of long, large leaves. Not only are the clusters of bold, bright-yellow blooms colourful they also have a sweet, jasmine like scent and are rich in nectar, so highly beneficial to visiting pollinators. Later, bunches of captivating, dark purple berries emerge and provide a feast for birds and other wildlife.Mahonia x media 'Charity' likes a shaded location such as a woodland border, where the blooms will glow in dappled sunlight - it will also be happy in a sunnier spot providing the soil is moist. A hardy, evergreen shrub which prefers fertile, rich soil so give a generous amount of well-rotted manure or compost when planting.
