Euphorbia are a genus of flowering plants within the Euphorbiaceae family, native to temperate regions across the world. The are commonly referred to as ‘Spurge’. The genus name is derived from the from the name ‘Euphorbos’, a Greek physician between 52–50 BC – 23 AD. In 1753, Swedish botanist, Carl Linnaeus allocated the name Euphorbia to the entire genus in the physician's honor.
Euphorbia are annuals, perennials, shrubs or succulents. There are many intriguing varieties, although most showcase a copious amount of small hooded flowers with often colourful bracts from spring through to autumn.
