Brunnera is a genus from the family Boraginaceae and are native to woodlands of North West Asia and East Euorope. Its common name Bugloss comes from a Greek word meaning 'ox tongue' due to the roughness and shape of the plants leaves, resembling an ox tongue.
Brunnera are rhizomatous perennials with large oval or heart-shaped hairy leaves and small bright blue flowers that bloom in spring and is often called false forget-me-not due to its blue flowers. Brunnera are well suited to a woodland garden as they are great for planting in the shade.
