Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
Astrantia major ‘Florence’ is a popular cottage garden perennial that forms a delicate froth of flowers from June to August each year. The soft pink pincushions of flowers are surrounded by a matching rosette of eye-catching bracts that grow and mature to a clump over 2-5 years. Astrantia major ‘Florence’ is an herbaceous perennial which grows to a height of up to 90cm and spreads to approximately 60cm. Suitable for any kind of moist, well-drained soil, the foliage of ‘Florence’ emerges in March with a profusion of green, palmate leaves, lasting through to October time. Like most Astrantia it is ideally a sheltered position with full sun or partial shade of any aspect. Astrantia major ‘Florence’ is fully hardy so does not need any additional protection in winter; just remove the dead foliage to keep it neat and tidy. Furthermore, this astrantia has the RHS plants for pollinators award so the bees will love it almost as much as you do.
