Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
A petite variety of these enchanting and mysterious blooms which are steeped in folklore and were, in ancient times, used both medicinally and as a way to cull unwanted animals such as wolves (plants are also known as Wolfsbane). Despite this ominous history - there is no doubt Aconitum 'Purple Sparrow' will bring joyous blooms from June to August, held above clump-forming glossy, dark foliage. Flowers are borne on almost black stems as racemes of hooded purple-blue beauties - ideal for bringing enduring interest to pots, open ground and woodland gardens. Blooms can also be cut for a vase but do take care to wear gloves as direct contact with the skin should be avoided.Aconitum 'Purple Sparrow' prefers moist, well-drained soil in full shade to full sun - with a preference for some sunshine away from the hottest part of the day. A fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which will naturalise when provided with the right conditions reaching a height and spread of 45-60cm.
