Evoking a comforting sense of nostalgia, the ‘Vintage Viola Collection’ retain the charm and resilience of their ancestors but prized for their enduring beauty and often delicate fragrance.
Pretty blooms cover the spreading, evergreen foliage from April to July. Originating from a species found growing wild in the Spanish Pyrenees, these little perennials defy their dainty appearance by proving surprisingly robust. Perfect for planting beneath deciduous shrubs such as roses, at the front of borders, or spilling over path and container edges.
The ‘Vintage Viola Collection’ comprises; cornuta ‘Boughton Blue’ – exquisite, lilac-flushed, clear sky-blue flowers, height 20cm, spread 25cm; cornuta ‘Martin’ AGM– masses of rich, velvety purple flowers with delicate yellow eyes, height 20cm, spread 30cm; and cornuta ‘Molly Sanderson’ AGM- large, velvety, almost black, honey-scented blooms, which on closer inspection reveal the darkest hints of deep purple, and a small, golden eye at the centre, height 20cm, spread 25cm.
Hardy (H5) perennials which are happiest grown an east, south or west facing aspect, in sun or part shade in any moist, well-drained soil.
