Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
A relative newcomer and a strikingly unusual coleus with compact foliage which grows to a height and spread of 30-35cm. This means Plectranthus scutellarioides ‘Skeletal’ remains neat and tidy throughout the growing season from March to October. Furthermore, the colourful and richly patterned leaves will certainly hold their own amongst even the most eye-catching flowers - radiating shades of red, purple, brown, yellow, white and green. In September, pale violet flowers emerge – although the blooms are considered ‘insignificant’ against the amazing leaves and can be removed, as this appears to prevent your plants becoming ‘leggy’. A fabulous inclusion in baskets and pots, as well as making excellent groundcover and an enviable houseplant. Plectranthus scutellarioides ‘Skeletal’ prefers to be planted in rich, well-drained loam or sand-based soil which benefits from either full sun or partial shade. As a warm, temperate perennial, it needs temperatures to remain above 5°C and can be kept indoors as a houseplant over the colder months should you desire. Alternatively, grow as an annual and replace stocks each year.
