Tell Me More...
Bearing large, single, jewel-like blooms on stout stems from January to May, Helleborus orientalis ‘Single Aubergine White Edge’ oozes subtle charm and style. The welcome burst of late winter colour is accompanied by verdant new foliage, a scarce and uplifting sight at this time of year. The blooms are complemented by its dark green, leathery foliage, which remains evergreen in most climates, providing year-round interest. Hellebores provide a rich source of nectar for early solitary bees, whose awakening from hibernation coincides neatly with the blooming of these winter flowers. Helleborus orientalis thrive in partial to full shade and prefer well-drained, humus-rich soil, and are particularly well-suited for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and underplanting beneath deciduous trees. Fully hardy, it will reach a height and spread of around 35cm, and is noted for its resilience, being both deer-resistant and relatively low-maintenance once established. Long-lasting, it will form attractive clumps over time.
