Tell Me More...
A compact, nicely branched, upright, bushy evergreen with red stems which carry elongated, lance-shaped leaves in shades of red, maroon and dark purple. Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Ruby Glow' bears zingy lime green flowers from March to July which provide spectacular contrast to the richly coloured foliage. Otherwise known as ‘wood spurge’, this hardy euphorbia thrives in full sun or partial shade on moist, well-drained soil of any type except heavy clay. Plants will also tolerate heavier shade levels and drier conditions if provided with a deep mulch at the base. Ideal for bringing colour under trees or tall shrubs, Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Ruby Glow' also looks stunning alongside spring flowering bulbs and hellebores. This euphorbia self-seeds freely – seedlings can be potted up when they are big enough and relocated if desired. Caution is required when cutting, as the milky sap can cause irritation, so wear gloves. Compact and low-growing with a height of 60cm and a spread of 45cm, plants provide excellent, weed-suppressing groundcover.
