Tell Me More...
Dryopteris wallichiana is a woodland fern which holds the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit for outstanding garden performance. Often called Wallich's Wood Fern, Dryopteris wallichiana is a hardy semi-evergreen fern which boasts beautiful bright green fronds, black stems, and brown and black bristly hairs. Loving cool parts of the garden this fern is versatile and will grow under large shrubs, trees, areas which receive no sunlight and when mature even in dry shade; this ornamental variety makes an ideal contrast to perennials and other plants. Fully grown Dryopteris wallichiana achieves a height of 75-90cm with a spread of 60-90cm. Easy to grow and with requiring little maintenance this fern will thrive in your garden. Wallich's Wood Fern prefers a moist shaded spot and adapts to a wide range of soil types. It is considered pest and disease free, and once established is drought tolerant. Hardy perennial tolerating temperatures down to -15 degrees C.
