Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
Delphiniums are a much loved cottage garden plant with tall floriferous spires lighting up a summer garden. Delphinium elatum ‘Delphina Dark Blue White Bee’ is a petite, yet prolific, bloomer which will allow those of you with smaller spaces to enjoy these pollinator friendly wonders too, as it is well suited to growing in containers as well as open ground. Stems are sturdy and upright, being less inclined to flop than many taller varieties. Fully double flowers emerge from June to August, in a rich, dark blue with a white centre, or bee, to each bloom. Verdant foliage is retained longer, from March to October, and forms generous clumps as plants mature. Delphinium elatum ‘Delphina’ make excellent cut flowers, whether dried or fresh, and can be used as ‘environmentally friendly’ confetti too. Delphinium elatum ‘Delphina Dark Blue White Bee’ is deer resistant and grows to a height of approximately 50cm, spreading to around 25cm. Plants prefer well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay and a position in sun or partial shade. A hardy (H5), herbaceous perennial which will delight for years to come as it thrives outside all year without the need for addiitonal winter protection.
