Blue is a hard-to-find colour in the flower world, and with new breeding, the first dwarf delphinium, elatum Delphina Light Blue with White Bee, is perfect for containers or borders where they will not flop. Fully double, pale blue blooms form huge flowerheads all summer long, much to the delight of local bees and butterflies. Held on strong stems over clumps of pretty green foliage from May to September, Delphinium Delphina make excellent cut flowers, whether dried or fresh. Delphinium, often thought of as a classic cottage garden plant, are named from Ancient Greek, meaning dolphin, as the blooms of the wild plants were said to be dolphin shaped, however new breeding is now producing blooms of a different shape. Delphinium elatum Delphina Light Blue with White Bee is deer resistant and grows to a height of approximately 50cm, spreading to approximately 25cm, preferring moist, well-drained soil in part shade. As a hardy perennial, you will enjoy Delphinium for years to come as it thrives outside all year round without the need for winter protection.
